Painting · Printmaking · PhotographyChicago / Mexico City

Sofia Barroso is a Mexican artist who divides her practice between studios in Chicago and Mexico City. She earned her MFA in Print Media and Photography from Boston University College of Fine Arts, and works across painting, printmaking, and photography — including cyanotype, trace monotype, and silkscreen — as a way of exploring self-discovery and present-moment awareness.

Light is her material and her subject. Her Meditations are built slowly on raw linen and cotton rag, through repetition, attention, and touch, while her Blueprints are cyanotypes shaped by sunlight, where light interacting with chemistry reveals tone and depth. Her work has been shown at Art Basel Miami, the Paris Contemporary Art Fair, and the Griffin Museum of Photography, and is held in the permanent collection of the Flemish Ministry of Culture in Belgium.
